I Need Dentures. Where Do I Start?
The best place to start when it comes to getting dentures is booking a consultation with our office. Dr. Earnest will carefully examine your mouth, checking the condition of your gums and the rest of your oral health to make sure that dentures are the best option for you. After, he will develop a personalized treatment plan that will outline the process of receiving your dentures. This first step is important because treating any preexisting issues before dentures will help set you up for success in the future.
Are There Different Types of Dentures?
We can create dentures to replace all or some of your teeth. There are 3 different types of dentures:
- Full dentures: If you’re missing all or most of your teeth, full dentures can replace your whole smile with beauty and function. These are prosthetic teeth attached to a gum colored base that rest on top of your gums.
- Partial dentures: Partial dentures are made to seamlessly replace various gaps in your smile. These are typically held in place using clasps and they restore the appearance and strength of your teeth.
- Implant-retained dentures: Combining dentures with dental implants, this option is the most stable of the three. Using dental implants to anchor your denture in place, you can enjoy completely restored biting power.
How Much Do Dentures Cost?
The cost of your San Marcos dentures will vary based on your type of denture and your needs. Because there are multiple variables that influence cost, it’s hard to give an estimate without examining your mouth first. Dr. Earnest will give you a precise estimate after examining your mouth to decide which option would be best for you.
How Should I Care for My Dentures?
Daily maintenance of your dentures is important to keep them looking great, but also to avoid oral health issues. You can clean your prosthesis with a denture brush or a soft-bristled toothbrush, brushing every surface to rid it of bacteria and food debris. Don’t brush your dentures with regular toothpaste, but you can use denture cleaner or a dish washing liquid. Lastly, it’s important to soak them in a water-based cleaning solution overnight.
Can I Sleep in My Dentures?
You can sleep in your dentures, but it’s better for your mouth and prosthesis if you take them out. This gives your gums and jawbone a chance to relax from the pressure they face throughout the day. You should avoid wearing your dentures for over 24 hours straight without cleaning them because bacteria can buildup, causing other oral health issues.
